4 out of 5 stars Very good if you know how to configure it.   July 31, 2010
Antonio Musat (Malibu, CA USA)
The router does all that should do according to the specification but it is not very simple to configure. Follow the manual and use your experience. Very small and very capable. Not a long range router.

1 out of 5 stars waste of money   May 26, 2010

I agreed with J. Gould and Y. Chen's comments.

Most of the time, products from Japan are quite good. But I have to say, definitely not true for routers. I usually get routers from D-Link or Linksys. But my friends and family like to get routers from other vendors like Netgear (poor support), Buffalo and now Planex! That shouldnt be a problem if I dont have to help them configure those poorly designed products. I am not a network administrator, but my network knowledge is sufficient to setup my own NAS, port forwarding, IP cam, etc

You can use this piece of crap as a pure router (at home) but I suggest NOT to travel with it, you will be so mad that you will probably leave it in the hotel. Why would a vendor set the default IP of a travel AP / router to 192.168.1.x? So that it will conflict with most of the hotels' IP? Even if you change the default, the minute you power off the AP / router and power on again, the configuration will return to the default! And you cannot clone MAC address, nowadays, it is hard to find router which does not allow cloning.

For travel AP, I highly recommend D-Link DWL-G730AP.

I used to have Linksys' travel AP but it comes with a built-in transformer and the component was overheated and broken within 1 year (same problem with airport express). The product is discontinued due to this issue. Otherwise, it is a good product too.

5 out of 5 stars Simple and Easy!!!   April 27, 2010

This should be a standard accessory for frequent travelers.

I have been using it as AP during my business trips to get wireless internet connection in hotel rooms for 2 months now. Never lost a connection, not even once. Setup was simple and easy. I regret I didn't get it much much earlier.

I was considering buying an Apple AirPort Express, but the salesman at the store recommended this. I am so glad he did.

4 out of 5 stars Small size and convenient   April 7, 2010

Work as expected, very small and nice feature to have functionality as Router or Access Point.

The wireless security need more fine tuning as it is not straightforward to use just simple WEP key security.

2 out of 5 stars Bad setup as Access Point   April 3, 2010

I have setup several routers and access points before, and consider myself considerably knowledgeable about technology.I purchased this when it was only $30 as an alternative to the Microsoft wireless adapter for my xbox 360. I didn't have especially high hopes because of the price, but I thought it would work. The documentation and all wording was obviously done by non-english speakers. It was straightforward, and easy enough to setup as a router, because I had to do this first. However when I tried to setup as a converter so I could use it for my xbox that was where my troubles began. To setup as a converter, you have to move the switch to converter mode, unplug and replugin the adapter and start the setup again. In the software it would start setting it up, and then it became a total crapshoot to see if it worked. 95% of the time it would say connection interrupted. When it didn't i could finally access the web-based setup page, for some reason I couldn't unless it gave me the link. Out of three times getting to the setup page I could only get it to connect to the internet once, and then it was terribly laggy, even on a 100mbps wireless N network.
